Congratulations to Finn for winning a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 4! Finn suggested that during our lunchtime sessions we cover the following topics:
- Integration between Adobe Creative Suite applications (for example, working between Photoshop, Flash, and After Effects)
- Colour correction methods (including Curves adjustments)
- A discussion of the merits of different colour spaces
- How to select complicated subjects (such as hair)
We will be sure to cover all of those topics in the very near future. During today’s meeting, Oliver asked that we also talk about colour management—a subject that at the best of times, can be a little confusing (and extremely frustrating). Rest assured that when we cover this, it will be neither of those things!
So, for those of you who would like to experiment with the NASA images, and those who would like to find out more about Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin–Gorskii, the following links are good places to start at:
- The Prokudin–Gorskii Photographic Record Recreated
- Making Color Images from Prokudin–Gorskii’s Negatives
- Project Homepage—The ESA/ESO/NASA Photoshop FITS Liberator
- Example Datasets and Links to Image Archives
- Step-by-Step Guide to Making Your Own Images (using the FITS Liberator plug–in)
- How the Hubble Images are Made (an interactive Flash presentation covering some of the layer settings within Photoshop)
Remember that the FITS Liberator plug–in will import your images into Photoshop as Grayscale files. You will need to convert your files to RGB (Image > Mode > RGB Color) in order to begin colouring them.
I will try to put together a little tutorial when I get a quiet moment. In the meantime, if you get stuck, just come and find me, and I will give you a hand.
See you next week : )
Lee.
